Feast for the senses

Quick flight to Hue and a taxi ride to our hotel to meet up with Kelsey.  She had booked us on a wonderful food and city tour of Hue by bicycle taxi.  The scooters outnumber cars by a lot on the roads here. The pace is slow, yet frenetic, with a lot of beeping and close calls.  Took me a while to get used to it but was a great way to see Hue, on major roads and down alleyways, on both sides of the river. We stopped at several restaurants/cafes in less touristy parts of the city.  We ate food that Hue and Vietnam is known for, like Bun Bo Hue, a soup like Pho but tastier - lots of ingredients, complex flavors. Our guide explained the history of the dishes we ate, and in the market, showed us all the amazing fruits and vegetables and greens and spices, explaining the medicinal value of each. Soon I got used to the ride in the bike taxi, closed my eyes, listened to the sounds of this small city, felt the breeze on my face and the beginning droplets of the rain that soon started. We ended the afternoon with some interesting sweets, coffee and ginger tea.  Then we shuttled back to the hotel for a swim in the pool and a cocktail in the bar. Good day.
